MEN OF THE CITY (2009)

At the beginning of Marc Isaac’s latest film, made during the current economic crisis in the City of London, an apocalyptic quote from the book of Genesis appears on the screen. As the film progresses it becomes clear that it is constructed as a kind of documentary parable. Characters talk of floods and destruction, a street sweeper emerges as a Christ-like figure and the film is permeated with poetic and moving sequences revealing the human cost of life in the City.

The struggles inherent in the lives of the characters we meet, whether they are wealthy or one step away from destitution mirror our struggles. We are all part of the City.
